Madison Glenn, the major of Santa Rita, has decided to run for a congressional seat. As some of the council members begin political maneuvers to take her place, strange happenings begin to occur in their quiet little coastal town. A strange man is found dead in his car parked in Maddy's reserved space at city hall. With the hungry media determined to connect her to the murder in any way possible, Maddy is just as determined to keep her distance from the investigation. When her neighbor is found dead at the airport maintenance hangar, Maddy can no longer hold back. After one of her fundraisers, an operative from a corporate conglomerate approaches Maddy and uses strong-arm tactics to persuade her to help his bosses acquire a piece of Santa Rita would be tremendous-but the potential for ruin enormous as suspicion and distrust grow among the council members. Are the murders part of a corporate conspiracy or the work of a serial killer? As her staff becomes more suspicious, Maddy begins to question whom she can really trust.
