Poison Widows: A True Story of Witchcraft, Arsenic, and Murder
When the trials of the infamous "Poison Widows" began in Philadelphia in 1939, newspapers nationwide relished the sensational details of one of the most bizarre life insurance scams ever uncovered. All together, 20 victims were found, either poisoned with a cocktail of arsenic and antimony or "taken on a fishing trip" by the malevolent charlatan Morris Bolber, aka "Louie the Rabbi", — and two others — Paul and Herman Petrillo, flimflamer and thug, respectively. This lethal threesome induced immigrant wives to take out policies on their husbands, "dispose" of their spouses, and collect the insurance — with a nice cut for themselves, of course.
