Everyone agreed that Jennings' plan to raise money for a worthy cause was highly commendable. They agreed, too, that Jennings' plans always worked well — on paper! In practice, however, the master-planner's schemes ran into such difficulties between lift-off and splash-down that he was frequently obliged to improvise new plans in order to stave off the disasters caused by the old ones!
