A wonderful space opera which blends action and adventure and wit with deeper themes on the nature of choices and how our self cataloging of our options can lead us to greatness or self destruction. There are some hints that it is set in the same galaxy as the Anthony Villers stories (By Alexei Panshin). Although the tone and the sensibilities of the heroes are very different.
