Friend Me!: 600 Years of Social Networking in America
Friend Me! shows that people have been engaging in group interfacing with friends, families, neighbors, church groups, and other social groups long before computers and Facebook came along to make it faster and more global. It traces some of the more common venues such as corn husking parties, coffee houses, and the telegraph machine for social networking through curricular time periods in the study of U.S. history. It also explains the reason these venues came into being, who attended, what the social value was, what needs were met, how they built and maintained a sense of community, and how they evolved into other social utilities over time.
