The Tragedy of Z
At the sight of blood she wanted to scream, but no sound came from her beautiful throat. Instead, she stood without moving and stared at the late Senator Joel Fawcett.
On his feet were old and roomy carpet slippers. On his face was a quiet, not unpleasant expression. In his chest, just to the right of the pearly shirt buttons was a red stain with the hilt of a slender paperknife planted in the center.
There would be a national scandal. There would be hundreds of suspects among Senator Fawcett's enemies and friends. It would be an impossible case to solve. Unless Drury Lane could come up with a lead.
Of course, he did. Ot was a pretty tangled lead, but what made it easier to follow was the assistance given by Patty, a wandering blonde with melting blue eyes.
